Inflasi konsumen AS catatkan lonjakan terbesar dalam sembilan bulan

Amerika membayar lebih pada bulan Oktober untuk gas, sewa dan kendaraan bekas, memicu kenaikan terbesar dalam inflasi konsumen dalam sembilan bulan.

Indeks harga konsumen naik 0,3% pada Oktober untuk mencatatkan kenaikan terbesar sejak Januari, kata pemerintah Rabu. Ini juga cocok dengan perkiraan ekonom yang disurvei oleh MarketWatch.

Kenaikan biaya hidup selama 12 bulan terakhir juga meningkat menjadi 2,5% dari 2,3%. Tingkat inflasi masih di bawah posisi tertinggi enam tahun di 2,9% yang disentuh tiga bulan lalu.

Indeks lain yang menghapus makanan dan energi naik tipis 0,2% bulan lalu.

Namun peningkatan tahunan dalam apa yang disebut tingkat inti, angka yang diawasi ketat oleh para ekonom, merosot ke 2,1% dari 2,2%. Itu merupakan peningkatan terkecil sejak April.

Harga gas yang lebih tinggi menyumbang lebih dari sepertiga dari kenaikan harga konsumen bulan lalu.

Kabar baiknya adalah, jatuhnya harga minyak kemungkinan akan menghasilkan harga yang lebih rendah dan lebih sedikit tekanan pada inflasi dalam beberapa bulan ke depan.

Namun, biaya sewa, mobil bekas dan truk, perawatan medis, perabot rumah tangga dan asuransi mobil juga meningkat bulan lalu. Ini merupakan pengeluaran rumah tangga utama.

Harga untuk kendaraan baru dan komunikasi menurun.

Setelah disesuaikan dengan inflasi, upah per jam turun 0,1% pada bulan Oktober. Upah naik 0,7% dalam satu tahun terakhir.

Inflasi telah meningkat lebih tinggi tahun ini terutama karena ekonomi kuat yang meningkatkan biaya tenaga kerja dan banyak bahan utama. Tarif AS terhadap miliaran dolar barang asing juga berkontribusi pada harga yang lebih tinggi.

Namun pada umumnya inflasi tetap stabil, dan dengan penurunan baru-baru ini di harga minyak, inflasi konsumen dapat melambat sedikit. Itu akan memungkinkan Federal Reserve untuk melanjutkan strategi menaikkan suku bunga AS secara bertahap.

Beberapa ekonom berpikir inflasi secara konsisten dapat melebihi target 2% Fed pada tahun depan, namun, berpotensi memberikan tekanan lebih pada bank sentral untuk menjadi lebih agresif. (Sdm)
