Gold prices fell on Tuesday as investors booked profits after the metal surged to a more than seven-year high in the previous session and as equities regained some footing, but a spike in coronavirus cases outside China capped bullion™s losses. Black Friday memberikan pengecer Inggris dorongan tak terduga menjelang periode perdagangan kunci Natal.

Volume barang yang dijual di toko dan online melonjak 1,4 persen pada bulan November, lonjakan terbesar dalam enam bulan, setelah dua bulan penurunan. Peningkatan hanya 0,3 persen diperkirakan dalam survei Bloomberg. Penjualan tidak termasuk bahan bakar otomatis naik 1,2 persen.

Kantor Statistik Nasional mengatakan peningkatan didorong oleh kenaikan 5,3 persen dalam penjualan barang-barang rumah tangga. Secara keseluruhan, penjualan non-makanan naik 2,2 persen; penjualan makanan tidak berubah.

Penjualan akan tumbuh pada kuartal keempat kecuali jika Desember mendapatkan penurunan bulanan sebesar 1 persen atau lebih.

Pertumbuhan penjualan tahunan berakselerasi menjadi 3,6 persen. Survei dilakukan antara 28 Oktober dan 24 November, periode yang mencakup Black Friday pada 23 November.

Penjualan online melebihi 20 persen dari total untuk pertama kalinya.

Data dapat membantu saham ritel, yang telah jatuh lebih dari 16 persen sejak akhir Oktober setelah peringatan perdagangan yang sulit dari perusahaan termasuk Sports Direct dan Asos.
