Gold prices rose on Monday in Asia after landing a second-straight week of gains as traders expect a U.S. rate cut this month. Klaim pengangguran diawali,dengan maraknya pemecatan di AS yang merayap lebih tinggi pada akhir Juli tetapi itu merupakan berada di dekat level terendah dalam setengah abad terakhir.

Klaim baru naik tipis dari 1.000 menjadi 218.000 dalam tujuh hari dari 22 Juli hingga 28 Juli. Para ekonom yang disurvei oleh MarketWatch telah memperkirakan pembacaan 220.000. Hingga baru-baru ini, klaim belum setinggi ini sejak awal 1970-an.

Ekonomi naik ke tingkat pertumbuhan 4,1% di musim semi ini, didukung oleh factor belanja konsumen dan investasi bisnis yang lebih tinggi. Pertumbuhan yang kuat telah menyebabkan lebih banyak mempekerjakan dan mengurangi pengangguran ke level terendah 18 tahun.

Rata-rata klaim bulanan yang lebih stabil, misalnya, turun 3.500 menjadi 214.500 dalam minggu terakhir, pemerintah mengatakan Kamis. Itu adalah pembacaan terendah kedua selama ekspansi ekspansi sembilan tahun yang dimulai pada pertengahan tahun 2009.

Jumlah orang yang sudah mengumpulkan tunjangan pengangguran juga menurun 23.000 hingga 1,72 juta. Dikenal sebagai klaim "berkelanjutan", mereka hampir seperempat juta lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan waktu yang sama tahun lalu.
