The dollar began the week on a firm note on Monday as economic data pointed to strength right across the U.S. economy, reducing the likelihood of interest rate cuts. The greenback held steady near a one-week high against the euro, at $1.1096, and just below an eight-month peak on the Japanese yen, at 110.19 yen per dollar. Wall Street and Main Street alike look for gold to continue the recent bounce this week.             Thirteen market professionals took part in the Wall Street survey. Ten, or 77%, called for gold to rise. There were no votes saying gold would fall, with three voters, or 23%, neutral or calling for a sideways market. Gold Little Changed Ahead of Fed Meeting, US Tariff Deadline

Gold was trading in a tight range on Tuesday ahead of a two-day rate-setting meeting by the U.S. central bank, with investors awaiting clarity on whether a next round of U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods will come into effect this weekend.

Spot gold was up 0.1% to $1,462.97 per ounce by 07:34 GMT. U.S. gold futures rose 0.2% to $1,467.30.

Both the United States and China have adopted a reconciliatory tone, with China saying it hoped to make a deal as soon as possible.

President Donald Trump has said he was working with Beijing on an agreement ahead of new tariffs on $156 billion worth of Chinese imports on Dec.15.
