Gold futures finished at a two-week high on Friday to post a modest gain for the week as progress in trade talks between the U.S. and China was seen as bullish for the metal. China is one of the world's biggest buyers of gold. April gold settled at $1,322.10 an ounce, up $8.20, or 0.6% for the session. For the week, prices based on the most-active contract rose 0.3%. Wall Street rallied on Friday, with the Dow and the Nasdaq posting their eighth consecutive weekly gains as investors grew hopeful that the United States and China would hammer out an agreement resolving their protracted trade war. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 444.04 points, or 1.75 percent, to 25,883.43, the S&P 500 gained 29.86 points, or 1.09 percent, to 2,775.59 and the Nasdaq Composite added 45.46 points, or 0.61 percent, to 7,472.41. Oil takes a hit as U.S. supplies rise a third week and global stock markets drop

Oil futures dropped Thursday to log their lowest settlement month to date, after a report revealed a third-weekly rise in U.S. crude supplies.

Prices also suffered in the wake of a global equity rout that raised concerns about the economy and the outlook for energy demand.

November West Texas Intermediate crude fell $2.20, or 3%, to settle at $70.97 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The global benchmark, Brent crude for December delivery on the ICE Europe exchange lost $2.83, or 3.4%, to $80.26 a barrel. Both benchmarks on Thursday saw their lowest settlements since Sept. 21, after dropping by more than 2% Wednesday, according to FactSet data.
