Dollar pushes higher as investors focus on tax-plan progress

The U.S. dollar moved higher on Monday, bolstered by news the U.S. Senate over the weekend passed a tax-code overhaul, seen as a victory for President Donald Trump and the Republicans.

The tax news helped investors at least partly set aside concerns over the investigation into alleged Russian meddling in last year™s U.S. presidential election.

The ICE U.S. Dollar Index was up 0.3% to 93.183, while the broader WSJ U.S. Dollar Index was up 0.3% to 86.78.

Against the Japanese yen the buck traded at ¥112.95, compared with ¥112.24 in late afternoon trading New York on Friday.

The euro fell to $1.1860, versus a level seen late Friday in New York of $1.1896.

The pound fell to $1.3430, down from $1.3478 late Friday. Against the euro the pound was buying €1.3436 compared with €1.3478 late Friday. And against the yen, the pound rose 0.3% to ¥151.82

The dollar was trading at 58.542 against the Russian ruble, below a level seen in late New York trading on Friday of 58.889.
