Stocks ended lower Thursday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average stretching its losing streak to eight days as fears of a global trade war continued to weigh on investors. The Dow ended around 195 points lower near 24,463, a decline of 0.8%, according to preliminary figures. The string of losses matches a streak that ended in March 2017. Pound Weakens Ahead of Brexit Legislation Vote: Inside U.K.

The pound fell for the first time in five days against the dollar as the next hurdle for the Brexit bill loomed, with a vote set to take place in Parliament later Wednesday.

Sterling slipped from a post-Brexit high reached earlier Wednesday. The legislation to transfer EU law into British law is expected to pass through the lower chamber smoothly, before going to the House of Lords.

The pound fell 0.1% to $1.3773 after rising to $1.3836, the highest since June 24, 2016; sterling gained 0.1% to 88.78 pence per euro.
