Gold Prices Settle Slightly Lower, Then Extend Losses After Fed Meeting Minutes

Gold prices gave up the bulk of their losses on Wednesday to finish just a dime lower, finding support after Reuters reported that phase one of a U.S.-China trade deal might not be reached this year. That lifted haven demand for the precious metal. Prices then moved even lower as minutes from the Federal Reserve™s October meeting, released after the gold price settlement, showed that Fed officials were more optimistic about the economic outlook and were against using negative rates in the...

December gold lost $10.60, or 0.7%, to settle at $1,463.60 an ounce, with prices for the most-active contract at the lowest finish since Nov. 13, according to FactSet data. Source : Marketwatch

U.S. Dollar Flat as Tensions With China Rise Over Hong Kong

The U.S. dollar was flat on Wednesday ahead of the expected release of the Federal Reserve meeting minutes and as tensions between Washington and Beijing rose. China took offense to the U.S. Senate passing legislation that backed Hong Kong protesters and would ban the export of items like tear gas and rubber bullets to the city's police force, as conflict between the two sides escalated this week. The news added to jitters after U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated that he would raise...

Dollar keeps safe-haven bid amid trade 'headline fatigue'

The dollar held overnight gains on Friday, as investors clung to the safe-haven pending developments in Sino-U.S. trade negotiations and amid a growing scepticism about reports of progress in the talks. Movements were slight as investors also looked to a slew of global manufacturing surveys published later in the day for clues on how deeply the U.S.-China trade dispute is hurting the world™s economy. Pound Inches Down as Traders Seek Guidance Over Brexit Talks
Thursday, 17 October 2019 13:08 WIB | CURRENCIES |PoundsterlingCurrencyDOLLAR

The British pound inched down against the U.S. dollar on Thursday in Asia as traders sought guidance over Brexit negotiations.

The GBP/USD pair edged down 0.1% to 1.2822 by 12:25 AM ET (04:25 GMT) after the BBC cited a government source and said the U.K. and the European Union will not announce a deal on Brexit today. Other reports said that a deal could still be announced later in the week.

Reports of a "Phase 1" trade deal between the Washington and Beijing last week initially cheered markets, but the lack of details around the agreement has since dampened expectations.

The USD/CNY pair inched up 0.1% to 7.0975. The U.S. dollar index that tracks the greenback against a basket of other currencies was little changed at 97.738.

The AUD/USD pair rose 0.4% to 0.6784, the NZD/USD pair inched up 0.1%.
