Gold prices ticked higher on Wednesday, hitting the best levels of the session after data showed that U.S. consumer price growth slowed in November. Comex gold futures were up $4.00, or about 0.3%, at $1,251.20 a troy ounce by 8:45AM ET (13:45 GMT), not far from a five-month peak of $1,256.60 touched at the start of the week. The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported Wednesday that crude supplies fell by 4.1 million barrels for the week ended June 8.

Analysts surveyed by S&P Global Platts had forecast a decline of 2.6 million barrels, while the American Petroleum Institute on Tuesday reported a climb of 833,000 barrels, according to sources. Gasoline stockpiles also declined by 2.3 million barrels for the week, while distillate stockpiles fell 2.1 million barrels, according to the EIA.

The S&P Global Platts survey forecast a supply rise of 200,000 barrels for gasoline, and expected distillate stocks to be unchanged.

July crude % rose 24 cents, or 0.4%, to $66.60 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, up from $66.12 before the supply data.
