BOJ Cuts Bond Purchases as 10-Year Yield Drops to Four-Month Low

The Bank of Japan cut its purchases of 5-to-10 year bonds by 30 billion yen ($274 million) at its regular debt-buying operation on Friday, the second reduction for that maturity in August.

The central bank offered to buy 410 billion yen of the securities, down from 440 billion yen at the previous operation on Aug. 18. On Aug. 16, it had reduced the amount from 470 billion yen.

The benchmark 10-year bond yield traded at 0.02 percent after the operation was announced, unchanged from Thursday™s level which was the lowest since May 2. The yen was little changed at 109.67 per dollar.
