Tokyo stocks opened fractionally lower on Monday, tracking falls on Wall Street, with investors' eyes on the US-China trade war and key central bank meetings this week. Oil prices rose on Monday after U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Washington will take all actions necessary to guarantee safe navigation in the Middle East, as tensions mounted following attacks on tankers last week. Europe Stocks Rebound After US-China Trade War Sparks Sell-Off

European stocks traded higher Tuesday morning as investors began to mitigate the sharp downturn caused by China™s announcement of retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports.

The pan-European STOXX 600 rose 0.5% at 374.80 in the opening minutes of trade. Sector wise, autos made a strong start to trading, climbing 1.3%, with the vast majority of sectors starting the session in the black.

Beijing announced Monday that it would raise tariffs on $60 billion worth U.S. goods starting on June 1 as the ongoing trade war between the world™s largest economies intensifies. The news triggered a market sell-off, though European stocks seemed to be recovering in Tuesday morning trade.
