Silver futures rallied Monday, taking advantage of a rise in appetite for riskier assets while gold edged slightly higher as traders kept watch on Britain's circuitous effort to leave the European Union and awaited developments in the U.S.-China trade fight. Gold is flat in early Asian trade. Traders are most likely looking for the next catalyst that will lift gold prices, AxiTrader says. Oil futures settled at a nearly two-week low Monday, as investors failed to shake worries that growing signs of economic weakness will eventually hurt demand for crude oil. Hong Kong stocks opened lower Thursday morning as Donald Trump's decision to ban US firms from using foreign telecoms equipment appeared aimed at China's Huawei and ZTE, risking a further flare-up in their trade war.

The Hang Seng Index eased 0.53 percent, or 151.23 points, to 28,117.48.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.18 percent, or 5.18 points, to 2,933.50 and the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, inched down 0.08 percent, or 1.23 points, to 1,576.69.
