Gold was steady in Asia as markets assessed the likely impact of the spread of China™s coronavirus. Palladium extended its decline. Oil falls nearly 3% as over-supply concerns weigh

Oil prices fell more than 2% on Wednesday as a market surplus forecast by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and demand worries outweighed concern over disruptions to Libya's crude output. Brent crude was down $1.39, or 2.2%, at $63.20 per barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude fell 2.8%, or $1.64, to settle at $56.74 per barrel. European Stocks Close Lower Amid Renewed Concerns Over Italy Growing Deficit

European stocks dipped Tuesday afternoon, as broad uncertainties over trade and economic growth soured investor sentiment.

The pan-European Stoxx 600 index faded during afternoon deals ending provisionally 0.22% lower at 375.90. Italy™s FTSE MIB index was among the worst performers, slipping around 0.7% amid renewed tensions between Rome and Brussels over the country™s public finances.

Europe™s banking index continued to see losses during afternoon deals, down 0.42% amid reports the European Commission could hit Rome with a hefty fine for failing to rein in its budget. On Sunday, Italy™s Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said he would use all of his energy to fight what he claimed were outdated and unfair European fiscal rules. His comments came shortly after his far-right Lega Party triumphed in European elections.
