Hong Kong shares finished more than one percent lower Tuesday, in line with an Asian retreat, as traders fret over the reimposition of containment measures in several countries as the virus flares up again. The Hang Seng Index shed 1.14 percent, or 294.23 points, to 25,477.89. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.83 percent, or 28.67 points, to 3,414.62 while the Shenzhen Composite Index on China's second exchange slipped 0.85 percent, or 19.83 points, to 2,309.57. Oil rises slightly ahead of OPEC+ meeting

Oil prices rose slightly on Tuesday as OPEC and its allies cut production by more than agreed to in June, although demand concerns lingered due to increased cases of COVID-19 in the United States. Brent crude futures gained 18 cents, or 0.42%, to settle at $42.90 per barrel, after moving lower earlier in the session. Dow futures slightly lower ahead of Fed Chair Powell's testimony

U.S. stock index futures were slightly lower Wednesday morning, as market participants eagerly anticipated comments from the world™s most powerful central banker.

At around 05:30 a.m. ET, Dow futures slipped 40 points, indicating a negative open of more than 41 points. Futures on the S&P and Nasdaq were both seen slightly lower.

Market focus is largely attuned to the testimony of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, with investors anxious to learn whether he will confirm or confound expectations for U.S. policy easing this month.

Over the next two days, Powell is expected to talk about slowing economic activity and increased risks ” showing that the Fed is ready to cut interest rates as needed.
