Amerika Serikat telah memberlakukan sanksi terhadap dua perusahaan teknologi informasi yang dikendalikan Korea Utara berbasis di China dan Rusia, menuduh mereka memindahkan dana gelap ke Korea Utara.

"Langkah-langkah ini bertujuan untuk menghentikan aliran pendapatan gelap ke Korea Utara dari para pekerja teknologi informasi di luar negeri yang menggunakan identitas mereka dan bersembunyi di belakang perusahaan-perusahaan fiktif , alias, dan warga-warga negara ketiga," kata Menteri Keuangan Steve Mnuchin dalam sebuah pernyataan resmi hari Kamis (13/9).

Departemen tersebut menetapkan China Silver Star yang berbasis di China, CEO-nya di Korea Utara Jong Song Hwa dan perusahaan afiliasinya yang berbasis di Rusia, Volasys Silver Star sebagai perusahaan fiktif tersebut .

Sanksi diberlakukan pada saat AS meneruskan tekanan pada pemerintah Korea Utara dalam negosiasinya untuk denuklirisasi Semenanjung Korea.
