Oil prices fell on Thursday after U.S. President Donald Trump, in a tweet, called on the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries to lower crude prices. Hong Kong stocks edged up Thursday on lingering hopes China and the United States will eventually reach an agreement to avert an all-out trade war. The Hang Seng Index rose 0.26 percent, or 70.30 points, to close at 27,477.67. But the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.06 percent, or 1.61 points, to 2,729.24, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, lost 0.22 percent, or 3.20 points, to 1,420.02. Tokyo stocks opened higher on Friday, extending rallies in New York as investors shrugged off trade war worries and focused on positive economic data. Statement White House spokesman Jay Carney appeared a few hours after the acting president of Ukraine said the rebels shot down the plane with a missile propelled in the shoulder . Separately , Secretary of State John Kerry expressed concern to the Russian counterpart about the ongoing violence , and about reports that foreign fighters crossed into Ukraine from Russian territory .
 
Although the Kremlin has been weeks of protest, the Russian news agency , Ria Novosti , said 33 of about 50 rebel fighters were killed Sunday in Donetsk - in the battle against the forces of Ukraine - comes from Russia .
